Construction on Hartwell's first Zaxby's, a restaurant that features chicken fingers and Buffalo wings, is underway and should open in mid-July.
District manager is Kenny Wilson; general manager is Linda Sylvester; and assistant manager is Keith Cook .
Located at 1590 Anderson Highway near Super Wal-Mart, the new restaurant will feature Zaxby's unique interior design and create an additional 40 jobs for the area.
"Hartwell presents a great opportunity for Zaxby's to continue its growth," said Wilson, who began his career with Zaxby's in 1997. "We look forward to introducing Zaxby's signature service and prepared-at-order menu items and think the community will embrace the area's newest concept and experience."
Zaxby's is a pioneer of the quick-casual format, providing services and amenities that fall somewhere between fast food and a sit-down restaurant. Zaxby's will also offer drive-thru and phone-in services to meet the needs of customers on the go.
Sylvester, who is originally from Gainesville, Fla., previously worked for the city of Gainesville as a financial specialist and later in corporate payroll for Frigidaire.
She began her working with Zaxby's at the Anderson location on the Highway 28 Bypass.
"What originally drew me to Zaxby's as a company was their commitment to quality," said Sylvester.
"What really makes me proud to continue my career is the wonderful camaraderie between the staff and the community, which I believe will also be noticed by our new patrons in Hartwell," she said. The new Hartwell Zaxby's features vintage memorabilia and signage. The 2,500-square-foot restaurant will provide seating for 70 with booths and tables.
Along side Sylvester, Cook, a Hartwell native, will also help mange the restaurants day-to-day operations.
"I am looking forward to working with a company that is a strong business leader and very involved within the communities in which it operates," said Cook.
"I am also excited to introduce the Zaxby's taste and concept to all my friends and neighbors in Hartwell."
Sylvester plans to hire between 40 and 50 employees, consisting primarily of cooks and cashiers, to staff the restaurant.
Zaxby's is a "quick-casual" restaurant chain headquartered in Athens.
Zaxby's opened its first restaurant in Statesboro in May 1990 and by July 2001 opened its 100th location in Jacksonville, Fla.
Zaxby's has locations throughout eight southeastern states.
